Burning Man canceled this summer

Burning Man has officially been canceled for the second year in a row. In a Facebook post, organizers say uncertainty tied to the COVID-19 pandemic has once again canceled the event. They hope to return to the Black Rock Desert in 2022.

While tribal and health officials are breathing a sigh of relief, the cancellation isn’t the greatest news for the northern Nevada economy. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that Burners spend $63 million each year during the week-long musical festival. Still, Washoe County Health Officer Kevin Dick says cancelling the festival was “the right call,” especially since the festival attracts international travelers.
