Mobile vaccination unit targeting underserved communities debuts at Reno Sparks Tribal Health Center

A new mobile vaccination unit is making its debut in at the Reno Sparks Tribal Health Center Today. Governor Steve Sisolak was in Reno yesterday to promote the two FEMA mobile vaccination units that he says will be used to vaccinate people in underserved communities. The unit is expected to administer 250 doses of the single-shot Johnson and Johnson vaccine daily in rural and tribal communities.

Final snowpack survey of 2021 yields ‘disappointing’ results

The final snowpack survey of the year reveals disappointing results. Hydrologists say snowpack was measured at 63% of normal. They say it peaked below normal and is melting earlier than normal too. The below normal levels aren’t expected to impact the Truckee River much, but Bill Hauck with the Truckee Meadows Water Authority predicted the Carson River could be dry by July 4th. KOLO-TV reports Lake Tahoe could be close to its natural rim by the end of the year.

Reno to hold 1st community run in a year

Reno is holding its first community run since the start of the coronavirus pandemic more than a year ago. The Reno Connector Run returns to the city this weekend. The race will be split into two days with a 10K Saturday and a 5K Sunday with staggered start times. The race is limited to 750 people, including staff. Spectators are not permitted.

Man stabbed in downtown Reno

A man is stabbed in downtown Reno. Police say two men who didn’t know each other got into a fight near the Reno Arch late Monday night, when one whipped out a knife and stabbed the other multiple times and fled. He remains on the loose. The victim is expected to survive.

Vandals strike Silver Lake Elementary School

Silver Lake Elementary School has become a repeat target for vandals. District staff someone is marking playground walls with graffiti and putting large holes in the exteriors of mobile classrooms. Principal Courtney Sego tells KOLO-TV that they’ve been hit every day last week though the problem has been ongoing for several years, and usually picks up as the weather gets warmer. Reno Police and Washoe County School Police are investigating, and Secret Witness is offering a cash reward for information in the case.

4 CVS locations in northern NV offering COVID-19 vaccinations

Select CVS pharmacy locations have begun vaccinating Nevadans 16 and older today. Four locations in northern Nevada are offering the vaccine including two in Reno, one in Carson City, and one Sun Valley. As supply increases, they’ll allocate other stores as vaccinators. Vaccination is by appointment-only. You can also seek an appointment at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center.

5 arrested for DUI in Reno

Five people were arrested for driving under the influence in a special patrol over the weekend in Reno. Police say they issued 30 traffic citations and 19 warnings Saturday.
