Avalanche warning issued with snowpack ‘below average’ in northern NV, Eastern Sierra

The Sierra Avalanche Center is warning about a high danger for avalanches. As more people turn to the backcountry, experts say it’s creating dangerous conditions. Snowpack and precipitation levels in northern Nevada and the Eastern Sierra are “below normal” right now according to the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Nevada’s basins, right now, are about 30% below where they should be. On Mount Rose, they’re at 63 percent with 36 inches of snow. By now, we usually have up to 60 inches to start the year.
