Douglas Co. deputy shot in line of duty remains hospitalized

A Douglas County deputy who was shot in the line of duty won’t be home for Christmas. Sgt. John Lenz took two bullets to the chest and one to the face during a traffic stop in Gardnerville Sunday night. His body armor likely saved his life. The deputy’s sister Ruth Lenz tells News 4 his jaw remains wired shut and he’s had two surgeries since the shooting. But Lenz expected to make a full recovery. Nicholas Berreman faces attempted murder charges in connection with the shooting and is being held on 1-million-dollars bail.
