DA: Officer-involved shooting in Washoe County ‘justified’

An officer-involved shooting last year is deemed justified in Washoe County. The DA says the shooting of Ronald Akers in March of last year at a south Reno restaurant came after Akers attacked an officer and a violent struggle ensued. The officer was hit over the head with his own baton a dozen times by Akers and briefly lost consciousness before he was able to fire his departmental issued weapon at Akers. Akers pleaded no contest to a charge of attempted murder and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
