Gov. Sisolak Declares State of Emergency

Governor Steve Sisolak has declared a state of emergency in response to the Pinehaven Fire. The Governor’s declaration follows similar declarations from the City of Reno and Washoe County. The declaration ensures resources from the local, state and federal level are available to assist as needed during this emergency. Forward progress has been stopped on the #PinehavenFire, according to Reno Fire Department Chief David Cochran. He anticipates that to be the case as long as the weather doesn’t ramp up. Cochran said at least a dozen homes and outbuildings have been damaged or destroyed. He could not confirm what the cause of the fire was. The Washoe County School District announced Tuesday evening that classes at Caughlin Ranch Elementary School, Swope Middle School, and Reno High School will be cancelled for Wednesday, November 18 due to the Pinehaven Fire.
The school buildings will be closed, and no classes will be held either online or in person.
