1st COVID patients transferred to Renown’s alternate care site as capacity concerns grow

The surge on hospital capacity Nevada has been fearing has arrived at Renown. The medical center confirms that 10 COVID positive patients are now being cared for in a Mill Street parking garage that was retrofitted to become an alternate care site. They say these are patients who do not require critical care. The alternate care site was built as a precautionary measure but its 16-hundred beds hadn’t been used before now. Hospitals in Reno, Sparks, and Carson City are seeing the highest rate of hospitalizations due to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
