A motorcycle is hit head-on in a hit-and-run in Washoe County. It happened at Pembroke Drive and Veterans Parkway last night. Police caught up with the driver near the Grand Sierra Resort. No word yet on charges. The motorcyclist’s injuries weren’t considered life-threatening.
An elderly man is hurt after being struck by a vehicle in Carson City. Police say the 72-year-old man was using the crosswalk to cross Hot Springs Road near Pine Lane last night, when he was struck and ended up on the vehicle’s windshield. Pyramid Lake is reopening to the public starting next month. Come November 2nd, you can use the lake for camping, boating and fishing. SR 446 will also reopen so you can access the lake. Masks must be worn and social distancing practiced.
The Quad-County region adds one new death due to COVID-19. The latest death involves a man from Lyon County, in his forties; he had underlying health conditions. The area has a total of 20 deaths.
Wolf Pack coach Jay Norvell’s father has died just before the season opener. Norvell got the news Monday. No cause of death was given. His mother died at 79 just before last year’s season began. Norvell is expected to be present for the season opening Saturday against Wyoming.
With more than two weeks until the election, more than twice as many Nevada voters have returned ballots by mail than in the entire 2016 election. Nearly 176,000 voters have returned ballots mailed to them in early October, election officials reported Monday. In 2016, less than 79,000 voters cast ballots absentee or in all-mail precincts.

A Reno man is arrested after police say he fired shots into the air at a party and drove off. Police say Jaime Luna-Garcia drove up to the 1000 block of Robbie Way in Sparks early Sunday morning and fired the shots as people were leaving a party. No one was hurt. At least two inmates at the Washoe County jail have tested positive for COVID-19. One inmate was released; the other is in isolation. Sheriff Darin Baalam says he doesn’t believe the cases were the result of internal transmission.
