Washoe County COVID-19 cases hit 10,000

A grim milestone — Washoe County COVID-19 cases hit the 10,000 mark, adding nearly 100 cases the day before. The county saw one new death for a total of 165. The latest death involves a man in his 60s who had underlying health conditions. The county also added more than 120 recoveries.

Body found in burning vehicle near Sparks

A body is found inside a burning vehicle outside Sparks over the weekend. Firefighters say the burning vehicle was found near Pyramid Highway and Ironwood Road Saturday. Foul play is not suspected. The vehicle fire prompted a small brush fire that was quickly doused.

NNMC parent company hit by cyberattack

Northern Nevada Medical Center’s parent company is rebuilding IT systems after a malware attack. Universal Health Services was hit by the cyberattack Sunday. They say the breach did not affect patient care or personal data belonging to either employees or patients.

WCSD sells old elementary school in Incline Village

The Washoe County School District is selling an old elementary school in Incline Village. The school, which has been vacant since 2003, sold for more than $2 million, to the Tahoe Transportation District. It may end up being used as a mobility hub, despite residents’ objections.

County Health District Feels Shutout by Gov. Sisolak

Health officials in Nevada’s two largest counties said they have been shut out of the governor’s decisions regarding the coronavirus pandemic.
