Washoe County Schools are open today after being closed on Monday due to poor air quality from the Loyalton Fire burning north of Reno. Superintendent Dr. Kristin McNeil said, “we are excited and eager to welcome students back to school however this is a very fluid situation, in our region.”

Elderly woman struck, killed in Reno

An elderly woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Reno. It happened Sunday at Wells Avenue and Vassar Street. There, police say two cars nearly collided, and one swerved to avoid crashing and struck the elderly woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Loyalton Fire spawns rare ‘fire tornado’

It as a weather phenomenon even we’re not used to. The National Weather Service warned Saturday of a fire tornado or firenado as a result of the Loyalton fire burning combined with heavy winds creating a funnel like fire cloud.

Man shot in Spanish Springs over weekend

A man is shot in Spanish Springs Saturday night. Police were called to the 2400 block of Wingfield Hills Road. Police say the 22-year-old man was treated and released from the hospital. So far, no one’s been arrested.
