Nevada AG Part of Fed Suit Challenging Stripped Down USPS

Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford joined a multistate coalition that will file a federal lawsuit challenging drastic operational changes to the U.S. Postal Service. The Postal Service cuts, including eliminating staff overtime, and removing critical mail sorting equipment, threaten the timely delivery of mail for everything from medical prescriptions, social security checks, to ballots.

Woman murdered in Reno last week identified

We now have the name of a woman who police say was murdered in Reno last week. She is 24-year-old Elizabeth Gurrola, who the medical examiner says died of blunt force trauma to her head and neck. Police arrested Jesus Padilla across the state line in Susanville hours later. He faces murder and robbery charges.

Emergency, temporary homeless shelter opens in Reno

A temporary homeless shelter is now open in a vacant Truckee Meadows Water Authority lot on 4th Street in Reno. It comes after a judge lifted a temporary restraining order–filed by an area businessowner–who claimed the shelter would hurt his business. The judge says the COVID-19 pandemic allows for city leaders to take emergency steps.
