Gov. Steve Sisolak announced plans to implement a long-term reopening strategy that allows for more granular decision-making as the coronavirus continues to spread and leaves Nevada unable to follow its original reopening plan. Sisolak’s new strategy will replace broad guidelines with narrower reopening criteria, evaluating data on a business-by-business basis rather than targeting entire industries.
A Wolf Pack linebacker is seriously hurt after being struck in a hit-and-run in California. The team says junior James Fotofili suffered a skull fracture when he was hit in a road rage incident in Sacramento last week.
A motorcyclist is killed in a crash over the weekend in Reno. Police say the 29-year-old lost control and veered off Galletti Way near East Fourth street near the Sparks border Saturday morning. He then hit an object. He was found unconscious and pronounced dead at the hospital.
A drive-by shooting near UNR’s campus is under investigation. Police say someone fired shots from a moving vehicle Sunday morning outside the YOUnion Apartments off Enterprise Road. Several shell casings were found and at least one car was struck by a bullet. No one was hurt.
A Sun Valley man is sentenced to life in prison on child sex abuse charges. Patrick Brymer pleaded to guilty to sexually assaulting a child under 14 as well as using a minor in a pornographic video. He could see parole after serving 45 years.
You’ll have to deal with smoky skies for a little longer. The Hog Fire burning west of Susanville is about half-contained at just over 9,500 acres. The fire has been sending smoke into Washoe County for at least a week.
The Nevada Bar exam scheduled for this week has been postponed. It’s now being held August 11th and 12th. This is not due to coronavirus. The Nevada Board of Bar Examiners says there’s problems with a test software update.
The Reno Fire Department (RFD) says just before 2 a.m. Sunday morning they received a call about a house fire in the area of Zinfandel Drive. Just how bad is the hotel industry hurting during the coronavirus pandemic? The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitor’s Authority says 163,000 rooms have been canceled since the start of the pandemic in March. That equates to millions in lost revenue. They say more than half of current arrivals are coming from California.
