2 teens killed in July 4th crash in Sparks identified

We now have the names of two teens who were killed in a July 4th crash. Police say 16-year-old driver Giovvani Oliva of Reno and 17-year-old passenger Justyn Lopez-Florez of Fernley were pronounced dead at the scene after their car veered off the road and struck a tree on Sparks Boulevard near Baring Boulevard.

Over 5000 Acres Burned

Douglas County officials say crews continue to work the Numbers Fire burning in the Pine Nuts and Pine View area of Gardnerville. The fire sparked about 7pm last night and spread quickly. Health officials reported no deaths, 35 new COVID-19 cases and 62 recoveries in Washoe County on Monday. The death toll in Washoe County is 82 and there are currently 1,130 active cases countywide. The county’s total number of positive cases is 3,260 along with 2,048 recoveries.

Gov. Sisolak says No New Taxes

As Nevada struggles with nation-topping unemployment and enormous revenue loss facing the state’s gambling and hospitality industries, Gov. Fire on Mt. Rose 30 percent contained

A fire is burning heavy timber on Mount Rose. It was first reported near Winters Creek, on the east side of Slide Mountain, Sunday. Aircraft are helping control the flames-in hopes of it keeping it at its currently small size.At last check the fire was 30 percent contained.

Cold Springs-area fire contained at 35 acres

A fire burning north of Cold Springs has been contained. The 35-acre Antelope Fire didn’t threaten any structures. It was burning on BLM land near Village Parkway and New Forest Drive. No word yet on how the fire was sparked.

COVID-19 health care workers honored with holiday flyover

Front-line health care workers were honored this 4th of July with a flyover for their work during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Truckee Tahoe Honor Flyover brought the show over the skies of Lake Tahoe and Truckee Saturday. It was also aimed at recognizing those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Sparks man killed in Reno motorcycle crash

A Sparks man is killed in a motorcycle crash in Reno. It happened Friday night on North Virginia Street at North McCarran Boulevard Police say the motorcycle struck an SUV. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
