Washoe County’s death toll ticks up from COVID-19. It’s now at 43 with the three recent deaths involving men in their 70s and a man in his 50s. Recoveries are still leading over active cases. We’ve got 561 recoveries compared to 528 “active” cases.
Keep at least one eye on the sky Friday. The Reno Air Racing Association is doing a flyover in Reno and Sparks for those on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Reno Hearts for Heroes flight is happening between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday, weather permitting.
You can drive a bit faster on the SouthEast Connector. Reno says its increasing speeds to 55 miles per hour on a 5.5-mile stretch of the roadway. The original speed limit was 45 miles per hour. Public works crews are installing new speed limit signs.
Reno police are investigating a shots fired incident. The gunfire rang out on the 4000 block of Market Street near the La Quinta Inn last night. Officers say there were some injuries.
This year’s 4th of July fireworks are canceled in South Lake Tahoe due to the coronavirus pandemic. The vote by the Tahoe Douglas Visitors authority was unanimous. They hope to hold a smaller fireworks show Labor Day, if possible.
Restaurants in El Dorado County will be reopening soon. The county has gotten the greenlight from Governor Gavin Newsom to enter Phase 2 of reopening; it’s one of only two counties in California to be this far along.
Two months ago, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office ( DCSO) put out a press release regarding counterfeit Percocet pills be sold locally that actually contain fentanyl.
