Memorial Day commemorations look different this year

Flags were also placed at Northern Nevada Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, where for the first time in 25 years, a ceremony for fallen soldiers wasn’t held. Instead, small groups came to pay their respects over the course of two-and-a-half days.

In Virginia City, fallen soldiers were honored this Memorial Day in a non-traditional way. They held a Memorial Day cruise down C Street, complete with cars and bikes on parade Saturday. Many had decorated their cars while others simply honked their horns. Gatherings remain restricted to 10 persons or less in Nevada, but that didn’t stop crowds from coming out. Some wore face masks, and Storey County Sheriff Gerald Antinoro noted the coverings aren’t mandated. KOLO-TV reports the sheriff, himself, didn’t wear one.
