Reno city manager Sabra Newby is resigning from her position effective in July because of family reasons. Newby, who was picked for the job in March 2017, announced her departure in a letter to the Reno City Council and city staff late Wednesday night.
The Sparks Police Department says a hostage situation turned into an officer-involved shooting at the Park Vista Apartments in the 500 block of Sparks Boulevard on Thursday night. Officials said the suspect is dead and a female victim suffered non-life threatening injuries. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.

Reno is cracking down on massage parlors. In response to human trafficking concerns, they’re now requiring federal background checks on all massage business owners. They’re also requiring that the facilities have no recording devices, no tinted windows, and no ATMs on site. They also can’t operate 24 hours a day.
Governor Steve Sisolak has ordered flags to fly at half-staff until sunset Friday in honor of former Mayor and lieutenant governor Bob Cashell. Cashell died Tuesday at age 81.
Damonte Ranch High School is getting new football fields. KOLO-TV reports the school had to replace an old sprinkler system under the field-which meant it had to dig up the turf. The project costs $1.5 million.
