Fire is burning in Sun Valley. Crews were called to Stella Drive and Quartz Lane last night where they found a pallet fire. So far, about one acre of property has burned-but it was mostly an outbuilding, pallets, abandoned cars and some other industrial debris. Firefighters have managed to contain the flames to the property. No one’s been hurt. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A little boy who’d been missing in Lemmon Valley has been found safe. Six-year-old Oliver Ramirez was located near Frederick Drive and Tuck Circle-less than a half-mile from where he was last seen.
We now have the name of a child who died in a hit-and-run crash in Reno. Five-year-old Sariah Sheppards of Reno was struck Wednesday night at East 9th and Sutro streets. She was taken to Renown where she was pronounced dead. Jesse Bennett of Oregon is charged with fleeing the scene of that fatal crash and DUI. He also had a warrant issued for his arrest in Oregon on attempted kidnapping and domestic violence charges.
A Fernley man faces decades behind bars on child porn charges. 36-year-old Benjamin Morrow pleaded guilty to charges of distributing child porn in federal court in Reno. Investigators say they found nearly 120,000 photos and more than 4,900 videos of child porn on electronic devices in his home. They say Morrow used encrypted messages, online aliases and foreign email service providers to send the child porn to nearly 200 people.
Police say two people who were shot in north Reno Wednesday have died. Police say the duo was shot in the parking lot of the University Village Shopping Center Wednesday night. One suspect was taken into custody.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is investigating an illegal dumping site. Deputies were patrolling the Brunswick Canyon area, where they found a vehicle blocking a highly-used trail. Inside the vehicle, they found a man and a woman sleeping. Beyond their vehicle, they found the desert littered with garbage and other discarded property. They face illegal dumping charges.
New requirements are going into effect next month for residents wishing to visit their loved ones in Nevada prisons All visitors will be required to have their temperature taken upon entry into the facility. They’re also be forced to take a rapid COVID-19 tests. Masks are required-and visitors must be ages 5 and up. All visits are restricted to two hours with two visitors per inmate.
A woman is dead and a man is behind bars for a murder in northwest Reno. Reno Police responded to a home on the 3200 block of Heights Drive shortly before 11 p.m. on April 27 on the report of an unresponsive female. Over the course of the investigation, officers named 48-year-old Robert Jarab as the sole suspect.
