Man avoids prison in sports betting scam in South Lake Tahoe

A man avoids jail time in a sports betting scheme. Prosecutors described Richard Fuentes Junior, as a problem gambler. The Tahoe Daily-Tribune reports he’s been ordered to pay back more than $230,000 in restitution, after placing $1 million in bets over the course of three months. How he’ll do so remains uncertain since he lost his job as a mortgage dealer – due to admitting to a federal crime. The ex-manager of the Lake Tahoe sports book, Ashley Dean, was sentenced to federal prison in connection with the scam.
