South Lake Tahoe City Council votes to bring back fire marshal’s position

South Lake Tahoe Fire Department is getting a deputy fire chief position. The Tahoe Daily Tribune reports council approved up to $250,000 in funding for the fire marshal position in the wake of the Caldor Fire, as the department faces increased risk of larger wildfires. The fire marshal will create and manage community wide plans for major wildfire risks, seek grants, and oversee emergency preparedness efforts. The city previously had a fire marshal, but the position was eliminated in 2008.
