Mandatory evacuations are issued for parts of Lassen County as the Dixie Fire inches closer to Susanville. The fire is just eight miles or so from the community of 18,000 people. The Dixie Fire the largest in the nation and continues to grow at an astonishing pace. It’s now more than 635,000 acres. Containment on the mega-fire has grown slightly to 33 percent. Smoke from the Dixie Fire and the Caldor Fire, burning near Tahoe, are creating unhealthy and even hazardous air quality in Reno.
