Containment grows on Tamarack Fire as threat of flooding looms

Containment is growing on the Tamarack Fire. At last check crews had gained ground-getting the 67-thousand-acre fire 45 percent contained. Evacuation orders were lifted for Spring Valley and the Holbrook Junction areas Monday afternoon.

A Flash Flood Watch was in effect Monday night in Douglas County in areas that sustained severe burn damage from the Tamarack Fire. Monsoonal moisture was expected to spread north into the Sierra front-produced the possibility of slow-moving thunderstorms. The threat of flooding looms over the next few days. Areas along US 395 and CA 89 were particularly at risk.
