Truckee Meadows firefighters warn of early start to wildfire season

Firefighters are bracing for an early start to the wildfire season. Adam Mayberry with Truckee Meadows Fire says weather conditions right now are more so what we’d see in June -and the hot dry conditions indicate wildfire season is upon us. On that note–it’s time to clean up brush or any trash on your property that could aid a fire. Mayberry says you should have what’s called a “buffer zone” or defensible space of between 30 to 100 ft. Truckee Meadows firefighters say they expect this season to look a lot like the 2020 season when wildfires accounted for more than 40 percent of their overall calls and burned 50,000 acres..
