DCSO asks for public help in copper thefts from businesses

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in an urban mining investigation. They say thieves have been stealing materials from commercial businesses. They say the thieves are using ladders or ropes to get to the tops of buildings, and then taking copper and other materials that can be sold to recyclers for cash. Deputies say victims often don’t realize there’s been a theft until they turn their air conditioning on for the summer or their heating units for the winter.
