Snow, ice create treacherous road conditions

It’s another day where if you don’t have to go anywhere, it may just be best to stay home. Overnight snow and ice have made for dangerous road conditions in Washoe and Douglas counties, and in Carson City. State government offices in those areas opened late. Sparks City Hall is closed Thursday.

While it may be a good day to just stay home, it’s also a good day to go sledding. Washoe County schools canceled both in-person and remote classes-for the second day in a row, making these the first official snow day of the season for students. The hill at McQueen High School was crowded with families taking advantage of the snowy conditions for a little old-fashioned fun. But it does mean they’ll extend school further into the summer to make up for days. Kids in Washoe County will now go to school until June 9th.
