Washoe Health Officer continues to express concerns over schools reopening

“Dark days” lie ahead–that’s what Washoe County Health Officer Kevin Dick is saying after the school board ignored his recommendation not to reopen schools. After nine hours of debate, the board voted to continue to reopen schools for in-person learning for elementary school students on August 17th. Middle and high schools will see a mix of hybrid learning. Kevin Dick says the county could see a spike in overall cases as a result of the district’s decision. He could also still shutdown the schools, which he says he feels gave in to community pressures to reopen.
