The closing of the Sunset Motel after an explosion on Sunday is another reminder that housing options for low-income residents are dwindling. The City of Reno says they inspect 1-2 motels a week, 67 motels annually, as part of their motel inspection program. The motels that get the most reports of hazardous or unlivable conditions get top priority for inspection. However, the Sunset Motel only received a few reports and as a result, the motel was never inspected by the City of Reno.
