A brush fire-the first of the New Year-is contained on Peavine Mountain. The fire, near Stead grew from 10 acres to 67 before it was contained. It was in treacherous, difficult to access terrain with several roads leading to it washed out. Wind was also a challenge. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but investigators believe it was human-sparked. No one was hurt, and no homes were threatened.
