Ex Ski Instructor Could Face 45 Years Behind Bars

An ex kid’s ski instructor at a Lake Tahoe resort has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually exploiting a minor. A judge so said during the sentencing hearing in Reno Wednesday that Stephan DeGraffenreid must be supervised for life upon his release. The 26-year-old Gardnerville man pleaded guilty in September to one count of sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of attempted sexual exploitation.

Sparks police ask for public’s help in solving January murder

Sparks police need your help making sure a January murder doesn’t turn into a cold case. News 4 reports Sparks police say they’ve exhausted all leads in the shooting death of 19-year-old Saul Garcia. Garcia was shot and killed near Cygnet Circle on January 21 after a firefight between vehicles. Police say that shooting was tied to the murder of Edgar Rodriguez in Reno that same day-but that’s about all detectives know at this point.

The BLM is selling permits for you to chop down your own Christmas tree. Permits cost $5. You can cut down specific trees in the Pinenut Mountain range, Yerington, and other areas.

Sheriff Warns Of Phone Scam

Another warning today from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office about a phone scam . In this one, the scammer poses as an official of the Sheriff’s office, in order to obtain money from the victim.

Wildcreek School Moving Forward

Looks like the Wildcreek High School project will be moving forward. At a meeting Tuesday, Washoe County School District trustees voted to accept a due diligence reports which said building the new school on a portion of the Wildcreek Golf Course is feasible. The meeting room was jammed with opponents, who fear a traffic nightmare in the area.

Police Seek Motive In Downtown Shooter Incident

Reno police are looking for a motive in last night’s downtown shooter incident. A man spent half an hour firing bursts of gunfire down on Sierra Street from the 8th floor of the Montage Condominiums. He was holding a woman hostage. The man died from gunfire after a SWAT team burst into the unit.

Reno Man Stranded On Bali As Volcano Smolders

A local man is stuck on Bali with an erupting volcano. Matt Holihan of Reno is one of tens of thousands of tourist stranded as the volcano spits ash more than two miles into the air. The airport there is closed, and a larger volcanic eruption is believed to be imminent.

Longest Serving UNR President Dies

Dr. Joseph Crowley has died at the age of 84. Crowley was the University of Nevada-Reno’s longest serving president. Crowley served as president from 1978 to 2001.

Thief Crashes Stolen Landscaping Truck

A truck theft ended in a rollover crash in Reno on Tuesday. The stolen landscaping truck was taken while its crew was working near California and Arlington. The thief crashed the truck near Neil Road and Kietzke, then hid in a boiler room at a nearby business. Police found him and took him into custody.

Gunman Sprays Bullets Onto Downtown Reno Street

A shooter sprayed bullets onto Sierra Street in downtown Reno last night from the 8th floor of The Montage condominiums. The gunfire went on for half an hour, while the gunman held a woman hostage inside one of the units. The SWAT team broke into the unit, rescued the woman and shot the gunman to death.
