Tohakum 2 Threatens Burning Man

A fire, just north of Pyramid Lake has burned 30,000 acres since it was reported Tuesday night. The Tohakum 2 Fire is 40 miles north of Nixon. It’s burning in steep and inaccessible terrain. Fire officials say they expect it to move northeast of Hannigan Ranch and across State Route 337, into the Limbo Range. Structures are threatened and high-voltage electrical lines have been damaged. There is also potential for the fire to spread toward Burning Man. Highway 447 has reopened in both directions between Nixon and Empire due to downed power lines. The road was shut down, preventing many tourists from getting to Burning Man.
