Reno man charged with sexually assaulting a child

A Reno man is arrested in connection with sex crimes against children. Police handcuffed 55-year-old Jeffrey Fluckinger on eight counts of sexually assaulting a minor, 11 counts of lewdness with a minor, and 1 count of child pornography. Police say they expect to add more charges to Fluckinger’s rap sheet.

Two Armed Robberies Early Today In Reno

Reno police are looking for the culprits in two separate armed robberies that happened early this morning. The first victim was a tow truck driver who was parked in the 2-thousand block of Vassar Street. He told police a man wearing a mask pointed a gun at him and demanded his wallet and cell phone. And, there was a robbery at a home in South Reno early today. In this case, the victim and the suspect were acquainted.

Black Mountain Fire Contained

The Black Moutain Fire has been contained. The fire was sparked by lighting on Wednesday, and scorched nearly a thousand acres between Nixon and Wadsworth.
Meanwhile, the Preacher Fire ,burning southeast of Gardnerville, is 20 percent contained. It was also sparked by lightning early Monday. It has burned nearly 54-hundrd acres.

Police To Take Part In Community Block Party

The7th annual Northeast Reno Community Block Party is happening tomorrow, and Reno police officers will be there taking part in the festivities. The event is happening from 11 am till 3 pm at the Greater New Hope Baptist Church on Helena Avenue. A dunk tank will offer folks the chance to “soak and cop” and the money will go for school supplies for Reno kids who need the help. The police department says among those taking part will be motor officers,patrol officers and the consolidated bomb squad.

3 dozen arrested for DUI in Joining Forces campaign

Nearly three dozen people are arrested for DUI as part of the most recent joining forces campaign. In addition, the Reno police department says it issued 76 traffic related citations and more than 100 warnings during the three weeks of extra enforcement.

Man arrested for allegedly exposing himself to girls while snowboarding

Placer County deputies arrest a man for exposing himself to local girls at ski resorts. The lewd acts happened back in April. Deputies say Wellington Potter exposed himself to girls while snowboarding at the Vail Resorts.

Heller amendment aimed at protecting Medicaid fails

Senator Dean Heller’s amendment to protect the expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act has been shot down. The vote came in at 90 to 10. Meantime, Governor Brian Sandoval has come out against the Senate’s plan for what’s called a “skinny” repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

Trades Council Writes Check For Work At Traner Pool

A big donation check was presented to the city yesterday for the reconstruction of the Traner Pool. The donation of 50-thousand dollars comes from the Northern Nevada Building and Construction Trades Council. The pool was forced to close for the summer due to theft and vandalism. The cost of repairs to the pool are estimated at 1.3 million dollars.

Convicted Reno Woman Fails To Surrender For Prison

A Reno woman was only sentenced to 30 months in prison for embezzlement,but now she’s facing an additional ten years for failing to turn herself in. Jennifer Campbell was supposed to show up to start serving her prison term on May 8th, but she was a no-show. She was convicted in February of bank embezzlement and tax evasion.

More Mosquitoes Test Positive For West Nile Virus

A total of eight mosquito collections in Washoe County have tested positive for West Nile Virus. Health officials say the positive collections come from areas that stretch from Spanish Springs to Washoe Lake. Just yesterday, the Washoe County Commission approved an additional half million dollars to cover spraying for mosquitoes in the flooded areas of the county. So far, no human cases of West Nile have been reported.
