Federal trial in Reno prescription pill mill to be delayed

A highly-anticipated trial involving a Reno doctor at the center of a massive prescription pill mill will be delayed. A key witness for the prosecution has apparently fallen ill. That means trial scheduled for next week could be pushed until July. It also means Dr. Robert Rand has another chance at freedom. He’s tried several times to get out on bail but judges ruled against it. Prosecutors now say they won’t oppose his release if Rand surrenders his passport and wears a tracking device. He’d also be forbidden from practicing medicine. Rand was one of several arrested in connection with the pill mill that prosecutors say was being run out of a prominent Reno car dealership. The owner’s son was also busted.
