Man charged with murder Dotty’s Casino shooting

A man is extradited from Oregon in connection with a fatal shooting inside Dotty’s Casino. Reno Police have charged 56-year-old Edward Rose with murder in the shooting death of Steve Petersdorf after an argument inside the casino in May. He’s being held without bail.

Victim hurt in attempted robbery in Sparks

Sparks police say one person was injured in an attempted robbery. It happened early Friday morning on the 1200 block of El Rancho. Police say the victim was confronted by three men. Police say one of them pointed a handgun at the victim. Police say the victim fought back and got punched in the face. The would-be robbers fled with nothing.

Nevada’s first medical marijuana dispensary opens in Sparks

The state’s first medical marijuana dispensary opened Friday in Sparks. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that Silver State Relief has brought in 200 pot plants from all over the state. Sales will be limited to 14 pounds of marijuana on day one. The center’s opening was delayed by about three weeks over a pesticide issue.

23,000 pot plants found in Plumas County, Cali.

Twenty-three thousand pot plants are uncovered in Plumas County over the state line. Deputies say the plants were found in the Seneca Garden, located in the Chips Fire area that burned in 2012. They found another site near near Gilson Creek, where deputies say two suspects fled. Deputies believe the plants are being grown by a Mexican drug cartel. The marijuana is worth more than $10 million on the street.

E. Coli concerns at Lovelock Correctional Center

E-coli shows up in a Nevada prison. The Nevada Department of Correction says they’ve got one confirmed case and two suspected cases of E. coli at the Lovelock Correctional Center. Samples have been sent to a state health lab for testing. NDOC says no other inmate or correctional officers show any signs of being sickened.

Gardnerville man shot, killed by police after standoff

A Gardnerville man is dead in a standoff with police. Douglas County Sheriffs Deputies say they shot and killed 48-year-old Mark Perkins after he allegedly pointed two weapons at officers. Deputies were called to the home on Monument Peak Drive in the Gardnerville Ranchos Thursday afternoon after reports that Perkins was threatening his wife. Deputies say Perkins confronted the officers with weapons, and that’s when he was shot. Six deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave. A criminal investigation by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office is underway.

Police: Woman threatens mother with butcher knife in Sparks

A Sparks woman faces assault charges after police say she threatened her mother with a butcher knife. Police say SWAT teams showed up at a home on Prospect Avenue late Tuesday afternoon after Makenna Crossier allegedly barricaded herself inside her mother’s home. Officers had to fire tear gas into the home to get her out of there and handcuff her. Crossier was also charged with burglary and property damage.

NHP still looking for vehicle in fatal hit-and-run

The Nevada Highway Patrol is still searching for a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash. It happened on Route 395 near Cold Spring on July 11. Troopers say Stephen Hobbs was traveling north on the highway when police believe his sport bike collided with another car. Hobbs was ejected and later died. Police are looking for a silver 2010 or newer Subaru WRX with left front or side damage.

Reno man arrested in crash that injured woman

The Washoe County Sheriff’s office arrests a Reno man in connection with a single vehicle crash earlier this week. Deputies have charged Derek Meyer with reckless driving and fleeing the scene of an accident. Deputiessay his vehicle rolled over at Sun Valley Boulevard and Quarts Lane late Monday night and he fled the scene, leaving a woman badly injured.

Apartments coming to Victorian Square in Sparks

Apartments are coming to Victorian Square in Sparks as part of a revitalization effort. KOLO-TV reports the city sold a four-acre parking lot near Century Theater to Silverwing Developers. Plans include garages and apartments on the first and second floors. The third and fourth floors will be town-house style units. Developers will break ground in early September with units being move-in ready next year.
