Fire bill combining Washoe, Reno efforts could get vote Friday

A vote could come as early as today in a bill that would force Washoe County and Reno fire departments to work together. The Reno-Gazette Journal reports a bill, scheduled for a vote Friday in an Assembly committee, if passed, would require the closest fire engine to respond to a fire despite jurisdiction. The two are exploring the idea of a merger, on their own, that many say would be more efficient and better for taxpayers. They ended a 12-year partnership three years ago over funding.
