Reno’s main water provider will need to tap into back-up supplies in just a few weeks. Come mid-June, there won’t be enough water to supply homes and businesses daily. The Reno-Gazette Journal reports that there’s not sufficient water flowing from the Truckee River to meet demand in the Reno-Sparks area. This marks the second summer in a row that the Truckee Meadows Water Authority will have to dip into drought reserves. Customers are also being asked to conserve water, cutting back consumption by about 10 percent this summer.
