The Reno City Council is looking at how to spend a budget surplus. 2 news says the city unexpectedly has an extra $10.5 million to spend in this fiscal year, and yesterday the Council had a workshop to talk about where the money should go. Restoring jobs that were cut during the recession is not an option for this extra money, but it could be a part of talks for the next budget cycle. Ideas that are on the table for this extra money include putting it into capital improvements for public buildings and parks, or putting in free public wifi in the Midtown area. The extra money is because of more sales and property tax revenue than expected. The plans could be set in stone today.
