Lyon County gears up for possible evacuations as Tamarack Fire pushes towards Smith Valley

A second Nevada County is gearing up for evacuations tied to the Tamarack Fire. Officials say the fire is pushing towards Smith Valley in Lyon County and people in that area should be making preparations to leave now. U.S. 395 remains closed south of Gardnerville from China Springs Road to the California state line after the fire jumped the highway, sparking a spot fire spanning 2,500 acres. In total, the Tamarack Fire has grown to more than 50,000acres, and it’s still not at all contained. NV Energy is turning off the electricity line in Coleville and Walker in Mono County, and there’s no estimate on when power will be restored.
