The University of Nevada Reno will hold in-person commencement ceremonies at Mackay Stadium in May. Graduates of the class of 2021 will have their ceremonies May 13 through the 15th. As we head towards summer, Nevada is staring down severe drought conditions. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the entire state has been flagged for seriously dry conditions. Washoe County, in particularly is in a “severe drought.” Experts say with that comes increases in bears and other wildlife in residential areas, along with dust, and fire concerns.
A man who was shot to death in Sparks has been identified. 38-year-old Fernando Mendez-Aguirre was found dead Saturday on the 1500 block of Vance Way. So far, no one’s been arrested.
Police are looking for a truck driver they say was involved in a hit-and-run. Police say the truck collided with a white sedan on I-80 eastbound near the Mustang exit Monday night, tying up traffic. Police say the driver of the sedan wasn’t hurt.
Police have identified a man killed in a dispute in Sparks. Police say 67-year-old Javier Rodriguez was shot and killed by 19-year-old Brian Rodriguez-Sigala. Rodriguez-Sigala had been staying at Javier Rodriguez’s place when the shooting happened Friday. He faces murder charges.
Nevada health officials say they’re hopeful about the direction of the state’s COVID-19 outbreak as reported cases, deaths and hospitalization trends remain favorable and the state gradually reopens following a winter surge.
