Council Promises Action on Pedestrian Death Toll

The Reno City Council is promising to take action to help cut down the number of pedestrian deaths on our streets. Reno Police Chief Steve Pitts said they will install highway reader boards on North Virginia Street this week that warn motorists of pedestrians and will also conduct aggressive enforcement on the roadway. Pitts said those are temporary measures. “What we need to do is slow down the speed in that corridor,” Pitts said, saying that’s an NDOT action. “And we will have to go with these temporary fixes.” The Regional Transportation Commission is slated to talk about the issue at its meeting on Friday.
